Jingkang TCM Invited to the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine "Western Medicine Practitioners Learning TCM" Training Program

From October 25 to 27, 2024, the "Western Medicine Practitioners Learning Traditional Chinese Medicine Training Program" for kidney diseases, organized by the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine and hosted by its Kidney Disease Committee, was held in Dali, Yunnan. Academician Chen Xiangmei — Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a leading figure in basic, clinical, and translational research on integrated Chinese-Western medicine for kidney diseases, and President of the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine — along with Professor Deng Yueyi, Director of the National Key Nephrology Specialty of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Vice Chair of the Kidney Disease Committee of the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine; Professor Yang Hongtao, Standing Committee Member of the Kidney Disease Committee of the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine; and Professor Liu Wenhu, Director of the Department of Nephrology at Capital Medical University and Standing Committee Member of the Chinese Society of Nephrology, and other renowned domestic experts, attended and delivered academic presentations. President Wang Tiemin of Qingdao Jingkang TCM Nephrology Hospital, a committee member of the Kidney Disease Committee of the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine, and Director Wang Xuepeng of Jingkang TCM were invited to attend.

This "Western Medicine Practitioners Learning TCM" training program aimed to empower the leapfrog development of integrated Chinese-Western medicine in kidney disease diagnosis and treatment through the study of TCM by Western medicine practitioners. Academician Chen Xiangmei delivered an academic presentation titled "Practice and Prospects of Big Data and AI-Driven Precision Diagnosis and Treatment of Kidney Diseases." Currently, the prevalence rate of kidney disease in China is 10.8%, with 150 million affected individuals, and the number of uremic patients is increasing by 10% annually, making it a major disease that seriously endangers national health. To improve early prevention and treatment of kidney disease, reduce the incidence of uremia, and lower mortality rates, the National Kidney Disease Quality Control Center was established in 2010, creating China's kidney disease informatization and big data medical platform, ushering in the era of informatization-based quality control.

Professor Deng Yueyi shared "New Understanding of TCM Detoxification Methods in the Treatment of Kidney Disease." Professor Yang Hongtao presented "Understanding the Modern Immunological Mechanisms of Kidney Disease from the Perspective of TCM Theory," proposing to focus on TCM-advantageous disease categories, using typical diseases as models, and employing phenomics and other approaches to reveal the immunological essence of TCM concepts such as "lung-wei insecurity" and "kidney-yang deficiency" in kidney disease. He also discussed applying multi-omics and modern biological techniques to map the immunological landscape of kidney disease and further investigating the mechanisms of action of Chinese herbal medicines that improve kidney immunity — these are among the research hotspots. Professor Liu Wenhu explored topics including "Analysis of the Mechanisms of Renal and Cardiac Benefits of Non-Steroidal Mineralocorticoid Receptor Antagonists."

The conference showcased that the achievements and directions of integrated Chinese-Western medicine in the field of kidney disease diagnosis and treatment are continuously being enriched and expanded. Qingdao Jingkang TCM Nephrology Hospital will always uphold its medical commitment, take academic excellence as its guide, and diligently strive to enhance the level of integrated Chinese-Western medical diagnosis and treatment technology for kidney disease, safeguarding the health of all patients.
